Why people use a CGM

See what your glucose is doing — in real time

A continuous glucose monitor replaces single, in-the-moment fingerprick readings with a continuous picture. Instead of one number, you see the full trend: where your glucose is now, where it's heading, and how it responds to everyday choices.

Live trends, not snapshots

Watch your glucose update every minute on your phone, with arrows showing whether levels are steady, rising or falling.

Understand food & activity

See how meals, exercise, sleep and stress move your numbers, so you can learn what works for your body over time.

Customisable alerts

Set high and low thresholds and be notified of rapid rises or falls — useful day or night, without checking manually.

Share with people you trust

The companion app lets you share live readings and alerts with family or a caregiver, so the right people stay in the loop.

Wear it anywhere

An IP68 rating means the sensor stays on through showering and everyday movement — built for an active lifestyle.

Discreet & comfortable

An ultra-compact, lightweight sensor on the upper arm — light enough to forget you're wearing it.

How it works

Monitoring your glucose at home in four steps

A CGM is designed to fit into everyday life. From the box to your first reading takes only a few minutes.

1
Apply the sensor

Place the sensor on the back of your upper arm with the single-step applicator. It's painless and takes seconds.

2
Pair your phone

Download the companion app, connect the sensor once, and your readings then flow automatically over Bluetooth.

3
Read in real time

See a new glucose value every minute, with trend arrows and customisable high/low alerts — no fingerpricks, no scanning.

4
Replace at 15 days

Each sensor lasts up to 15 days. Swap in a fresh one — a two-pack covers a continuous 30-day stretch.

Common questions

Continuous glucose monitoring FAQs

What is a continuous glucose monitor (CGM)?

A continuous glucose monitor is a small sensor worn on the body — usually the upper arm — that measures glucose in the fluid just under your skin and sends readings to your phone throughout the day and night. Unlike a fingerprick meter that gives one reading at a time, a CGM shows a continuous trend, including where your glucose is heading.

Do I need a prescription to buy a CGM in New Zealand?

No. The LinX CGM kit can be purchased directly from Health Marketplace NZ without a prescription. Some CGMs are funded through Pharmac for people with type 1 or type 3c diabetes who meet clinical criteria, and that route does require a prescriber. Buying a CGM directly is open to anyone who wants to monitor their glucose.

Is applying a CGM painful, and do I still need fingerpricks?

Application is designed to be quick and virtually painless using a single-step applicator. The LinX is used without routine fingerpricks. As with any CGM, if a reading doesn't match how you feel, it's sensible to confirm with a standard blood-glucose meter.

How long does each sensor last?

Each sensor lasts up to 15 days. A single kit covers 15 days; a two-pack gives a continuous 30 days across two sensors.

Can I wear it in the shower or while swimming?

Yes. The LinX carries an IP68 rating and is water-resistant for showering and everyday movement. It's rated for submersion up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes.

Does it work with iPhone?

The LinX app works with both Android and iPhone. Before buying, check that your phone and operating system are compatible with the LinX app, and consider pausing automatic OS updates so the app keeps working.

How is a CGM different from a smartwatch that claims to track glucose?

A CGM uses a sensor placed just under the skin to measure glucose directly, which is what gives it accuracy. Most smartwatches estimate other metrics and do not measure glucose directly. If continuous glucose data is what you're after, a dedicated CGM sensor is the device to look at.

Is there a fully non-invasive (no-sensor) glucose monitor?

There is currently no widely validated, fully non-invasive glucose monitor. A CGM is minimally invasive — a tiny, painless filament sits just under the skin — which is what allows it to read glucose accurately and continuously without fingerpricks.

What about MRI scans and air travel?

If you need an MRI, you may need to remove the sensor and apply a new one afterwards — check with the manufacturer first. For air travel, sensors are generally fine through airport screening, but you can ask for a hand inspection if you prefer.

This page is general product information and is not medical advice. A CGM is a glucose-monitoring device; it is not a treatment. If you have a health concern or are managing a diagnosed condition, please speak with your doctor or diabetes team.
